Just Engaged? Get a Jump Start on Your Bridal Beauty Routine

0
0

If there is one day that you want to look and feel at your best, then it is going to be on your wedding day. So what better way to start that, then kicking off with a stellar beauty regime in the months that are leading up to your wedding? Then you can feel confident and know what you have done all you can. You want to relax and enjoy your day after all. So here are some top tips and tricks to help you to feel like your best self, both inside and out.

Have Regular Manicures

From the minute that you have become engaged, you will have never known such interest in your hands and with your Tacori engagement ring. Everyone will be grabbing your hand and wanting to take a look. So to show off your ring with confidence, having pretty and primed fingernails will help. So from then, schedule regular manicures up until the big day. It can help to strengthen your nails so they can be looking good on your wedding day.

Look at Teeth Whitening

There will never be a time that you smile more than on your wedding day. So having your teeth looking good is always a bonus. Of course, you can ask your dentist and get your teeth professionally whitened. But there are several at home remedies you can try, as well as toothpastes or whitening strips. If you think it will give you a boost, then it will certainly be worth a try.

Eat Well

In the months leading up to your wedding, it can be a good idea to steer clear of certain foods, especially those that are high in sugar, salt or processed foods. These foods can all lead to weight gain and bloating, so are best to be avoided. Instead, focus your meals on plenty of vegetables, especially leafy green vegetables, as well as drinking plenty of water and having plenty of fruit. These will help your skin to be clear, as well as keeping your waistline in check.

Lift Some Weights

Whatever style of wedding dress you have chosen, you can be sure that you’ll want to look and feel lean and toned in your wedding dress. Cardio will help you to feel good, but lifting some weights is what can really help you to feel lean. Don’t be worried about the preconceived idea that lifting weights makes you large; it will make you slimmer and more toned, when done in the right way, of course.

Care For Your Brows

Your eyebrows can take quite a while to grow back if they have been over plucked. So now might be the time that you need to be careful about what you do to your eyebrows. If you normally pluck them, then it could be a good idea to have them threaded or even consider something like HD brows. Then they can be looking neat and just as you want them, in time for your wedding day.

Fast Fixes – My Current Beauty Obsessions

0
0

When it comes to beauty solutions, two things I lack are time and patience – I’m a fix-it-and-go kind of gal. That being said, here are my latest fast fixes and d.i.y in mind beauty products, designed to offer up fast fixes, for the beauty inclined.

NEWA™ Skin Care System

It’s tough for me to admit, but at 32 – I am starting to notice little lines on my face where I don’t want them. Enter the NEWA Skin Care System – a radio-frequency energy-based skin care device (the first to be cleared by the FDA for at-home use!) for mild to moderate wrinkle reduction. NEWA works by delivering focused, controlled energy deep into the skin, ultimately stimulating the body’s production of new collagen and elastin. The video below outlines how it works:

Treatments take as little as 8 minutes, and results can be seen after a single treatment. For me, I noticed a significant improvement in the wrinkles between my brows and around my mouth in a total of three treatments. Not bad for a fast fix, at all! NEWA is available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and NEWABeauty.com. It retails for $450, which is definitely less than regular visits to the dermatologist.

Skinny Tan

If there’s one thing that’s obvious, pale is my status quo, and it isn’t always the most flattering shade to be. Enter Skinny Tan, which pulls double duty to not only tan my skin naturally, but also minimize the appearance of cellulite. 7 Day Tanner combines a natural tanning active with skin soothing and firming ingredients, helping me out on both the complexion and appearance front. The tan instantly bronzes, and then develops into a natural, medium tan color that lasts about 5-7 days.

Liquid Palisade

When it comes to polishing my own nails – quite frankly, I suck at it. As someone who normally has to take time out to go out and get a professional manicure, Liquid Palisade has been a time-saving lifesaver on the d.i.y front. Liquid Palisade is an easy-peel polish barrier, applied before polish, that prevents you from getting nail polish where you don’t want it. I apply it to my cuticles before polishing, but am learning I can also use it on my nails to create my own nail art, as well. When I’m done polishing, I just peel it off and toss it. Quick fix, indeed!

Supersmile 6 Minutes to a Whiter Smile

In my quest for pearlier whites, time and time again I’ve found myself reaching for Supersmile. Speaking of fast-fixes, their latest kit puts together five of their best-selling whitening products, designed to significantly whiten teeth in just 30 days.  In this kit you’ll find Professional Activating Rods, Whitening Toothpaste and Accelerator (designed to be used together), Whitening Pre-Rinse, and the SuperSmile Toothbrush.  Calprox® is the genius behind Supersmile’s mainstay toothpaste, and is an ingredient that gently removes the sticky bio-film from teeth to which plaque, stains and bacteria adhere, without the risk of sensitivity. The miniature-sized products are also great to throw into my travel bag.

Tell me which fast fixes you’re loving, lately!

Why An Online Nursing Degree Is Perfect For New Moms

0
0

It used to be generally assumed that becoming a mother meant a woman giving up any ambitions of having a career. Fortunately, this is no longer the case. One of the reasons online universities, as well as online courses offered by conventional universities, have become so popular is because their flexible timetables make it feasible for new mothers, single parents, and working people alike to study for a degree and pursue the career of their dreams. Nursing is a particularly excellent career path for women, as it remains one of the few female-dominated professions, as well as one that offers women the best prospects when it comes to career progression.

Whether you are looking for something completely new in your life or you are an existing registered nurse looking to move up to the next level, online nursing degrees allow new mothers to plan for their own future while they secure that of their child’s. Below, we take a look at some of the top reasons that new mothers should consider studying for an online nursing degree.

Career Progression

This is one of the biggest selling points of a nursing degree: it is a career where progression is all but guaranteed. The first stage will be to qualify as a registered nurse. This is the most basic level of nursing qualification available and registered nurses will be involved in assisting the other nurses and performing some of the more basic tasks required for patient care. After this comes the associate degree in nursing, the ADN as it is known, which offers nurses their first taste at a more senior role. Nurses with an AND can supervise junior nurses, as well as taking on more responsibilities themselves.

The bachelor of science in nursing is the next step. It takes four years and requires students to complete a clinical residency with an accredited hospital. Some nurses power straight through their BSN and head straight to the next level: the nurse practitioner doctor degree. By choosing to complete their BSN to DNP online, nurses can study while continuing to work.

Improving Other People’s Lives

This is one of the reasons most often cited by existing nurses as to why they got into the field, to begin with. Nursing offers a unique opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives and, while it is undoubtedly hard work, it is also incredibly rewarding.

You’ll Learn a Wide Range Of Skills

Many of the skills you learn as a nurse will also apply to raising your own children, but the skills you learn don’t stop at healthcare. While you will obviously learn a lot of specialist skills when it comes to delivering healthcare, you will also learn to manage both your time and those of others around you, as well as how to function as part of a larger team.

Online nursing degrees have made nursing a viable career choice for more people than ever before and new mothers are one of the groups who can stand to benefit the most from the flexible timetable and reduced costs that online degrees offer.

4 Places to Work as a Counselor Abroad

Are you thinking about becoming a professional counselor so that you can begin an exciting career that will be fulfilling and will give you the opportunity to help a variety of people? Well, first off, you should consider getting the highest level of education in the field possible. Many of the best counselors, for example, choose to get their careers off the ground by enrolling in one of the many counseling programs online, but you can go a step further and get your masters in counseling online as well. Then, with the right education, you’ll be able to move just about anywhere to start your career, such as the five countries below where counselors are in high demand.

China

Millions of people in China suffer from a variety of mental disorders, and mental illness is considered a serious disease there, so the citizens require qualified counselors who can help them get better. Working in Asia is an exciting opportunity to not only grow your career but also experience a truly unique culture with a rich history. You can choose to work with children and teens within the educational system, or you could get a job working within businesses in the public and private sectors. Another option, of course, would be to work in a hospital setting. So, you have quite a few options to choose from.

Mexico

If you have ever thought about moving to Mexico and working as a counselor, you are already on the right track. Poor families throughout the country tend to suffer from anxiety and depression and they are in desperate need of professionals who can lend a helping hand. Other mental disorders, such as dementia and schizophrenia, also need to be addressed, and the more counselors that are available, the more people will be helped before it is too late.

India

India is a popular tourist destination, rich with history and a truly unique culture. It is no wonder that so many people go there throughout the year to experience it at least once. But many individuals who go to India choose to settle down there, even if only for a few years. As a counselor, you will be able to help people while living in this country and exploring it. Professional counselors are especially needed there because of social and economic changes that have taken place with the rise of urbanization and industrialization in recent years. Indians are experiencing new stressors in their daily lives and working as a counselor will give you the chance to help them.

The Philippines

Considered a developing country within Asia, the Philippines also attracts tourists from around the globe. But those who wish to settle there and offer counseling services are truly invaluable. You will be able to help people of all ages as they struggle with the changes that their country is going through, and you can ensure that their needs are met so that they can lead balanced and satisfied lives.

These are just four of the many places all over the world where you can lead a successful career as a counselor, helping others while being able to travel and explore new places.

How to Score a Bloomingdale’s Discount Code

0
0

Oh, the glorious world of online shopping. In this modern age of accessibility and convenience, there is no greater thrill than scoring what you want, when you want it. For the frugal shopper like me, scoring a deal is icing on the cake, though those deals aren’t always easy to come by. In this post, I’ll hone in on one of my favorite shows, Bloomingdales – and show you how to score some sweet savings by finding Bloomingdales promo codes.

Since it’s easier to show than to tell, let me walk you through my process and train of thought on snagging a promo code when I need one.

So, there’s this gorgeous little Ted Baker dress, that I simply must have for my office holiday party. So I find my size, and add it to my “brown bag”. In accessing my cart, I can see price, shipping, and tax – though what I’m most interested in is that lovely little “Enter Your Promo Code” box. But how do I find a code when Bloomingdales codes are hard to come by? Let’s discuss!

Become a Loyallist, and Sign Up for The Newsletter

Most major retailers not only have rewards for signing up for their newsletter, but will also offer up some sort of program that rewards you for shopping. Loyalists earn 1 point for every dollar they spend, and earn double points in some categories. 5000 points earns you a $25 rewards card.

Loyalists also get to take part in special sale events, and right now, you can get a $25 reward card for every $125 you spend. SWEET.

If you’re as impatient as I am, and want to snag an immediate 10% off, sign up for the Bloomingdale’s newsletter. Almost immediately, you’ll get a code in your inbox. To sign up, simply scroll down to the bottom of the homepage, and click on the “sign up for our emails” link.

You’ll get instant gratification with a 10% off code – woooo!

So, now I’ve snagged 10% off that adorable Ted Baker dress that I HAD TO HAVE. What do I do when I find another awesome dress, two weeks after I’ve already used my coupon code?

To Google, Batman! Time to Search Coupon Sites for Codes.

So I’m browsing the interwebs, and type in “Bloomingdales Coupon Codes”. Obviously, the result is hundreds of pages of codes, with some that work and, more often, lots that don’t. Here’s where I filter out the “junk” by referencing legit sites that I’ve come across in my online shopping trials. My top 3 are Dealspotr, RetailmeNot, and Slickdeals. I open up all three pages, and type in “Bloomingdale’s”. Easy enough, right?

So, here is what we get with RetailMeNot.

Scrolling through, I see that I can snag 10% with Mobile Sign Up. I click the link, but it only brings me back to the Bloomingdale’s homepage. I continue looking, but don’t really find any codes applicable to what I need – a single-use code for that second dress. Most links on RetailMeNot are just bringing me back to the Bloomingdale’s homepage. Chalk RMN up as a dud, this time around.

Next, I go to Slickdeals, but the process of finding a code can be a bit harrowing. The initial search of Bloomingdale’s proves fruitless, so I then taken to the forum, but can’t find anything useful there, either.

So, frustrated and disappointed, I head to my last stop on the online coupon gains train – Dealspotr. I type in Bloomingdales, and scroll down to filter coupons by code. Hmmm, now I might be getting somewhere.

When I click on the site-wide codes option, Dealspotr gives me both codes, and the likelihood of these codes working.

Each deal will have a “likelihood of working” rating – based on users validating that the code worked for them – as well as detailed information on how to use the code. Unfortunately, none of these codes are going to help with the one item I want to purchase. DARN. At least I know that I could have saved time in my searching by just going to Dealspotr, seeing what’s available, easily, and putting what I found to the test. I make a mental note to check back with Dealspotr in a week, just to see if there is anything new and exciting that I can actually use.

Go The Social Media Route

These days, almost every brand has a Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram account. In fact, you can access all of Bloomingdale’s social media accounts directly via links on their homepage.

Oftentimes, brands may post links to special sales and promotions going on at the time, with followers essentially getting first dibs.

Bookmark This!

With these tips and tricks in mind, shopping at Bloomingdale’s online and snagging a deal should hopefully be an easier endeavor.

In your coupon and promo code searches, be sure to bookmark Dealspotr. With 5 million coupons and advanced code-finding tools, Dealspotr has pretty much become my go-to for all things coupon codes.

If you sign up as a member, and use my promo code “KRASEYFITBEAUTY”,  you not only get bonus points, but you can also subscribe to specific stores for live deal updates. Sharing deals will ultimately earn you points, too!

Show of hands, who here is a Pringles fiend?! I know I am! As a certified snackaholic, often are the times I find myself stocking up on the tubular potato crisps, only to watch them disappear all too quickly. They are a snack I grew up loving, and still love and enjoy to this day.

Imagine then my excitement at learning that the iconic brand was opening a #StackShack pop-up, right in the heart of New York City. You know I had to check it out, as soon as it opened.

With #PringlesStack, Pringles is encouraging fans to get creative, crafting their own triple-chip stack flavor recipes with 25 different Pringles flavors as inspiration. For those unsure of which combos to go with, Pringles has enlisted the help of famous food personality Adam Richman, to come up with custom-crafted “recipes” that visitors can sample at the Stack Shack. Combos like the “Party Dip Stack” (French Onion Dip, Original, Sour Cream & Onion), the “Spaghetti and Red Sauce Stack” (Pizza, LOUD Super Cheesy Italian, LOUD Mighty Margherita Pizza) and the “Wing Night Stack” (Buffalo Ranch, BBQ, Ranch) are just some of the combinations to try.

Upon entering, you are given a little white tray, a golf pencil, and a form to fill out with flavor combinations you try along the way. You then walk around the space, placing your tray in the window of the giant can representing each flavor that you want to try. Almost immediately, a gloved hand delivers the chip of your choosing You can create as many different recipes as you want, or just try each chip individually – sky’s the limit! Also readily available are Adam’s flavor stacks, which you can also try at will.

When it comes to describing who I am and what I do, there is no neat little bubble that I can put myself in. I’m a multi-talented girl (If I may say so), in a fast-paced world, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My day-to-day involves juggling my full-time job with my part-time hobbies, all while living a fit and healthy lifestyle, and inspiring others. Leading a double (triple?! quadruple?!) life, just like a superhero. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

As a blogger, it is a personal mission of mine to find the brands and products that align with my goals, so that I can share them with all of you. Enter prAna, a brand of lifestyle/activewear that not only offers up both stylish and functional pieces, but also shows that they care about the environment by offering organic, sustainable, recycled, fair trade certified, and hemp items.

When given the opportunity to collaborate with prAna and Fitfluential, I knew I had found a brand as multi-faceted as me. When asked to select an outfit, the Rockaway Jacket and Juniper Pants combo immediately caught my eye. This is an outfit that looks just as good on while running errands as it does in the gym. This set is not only cute and comfy, but I can also feel great about wearing it – since the pants are made of hemp, and the jacket contains 50% recycled materials. Responsible fashion, at its best.

Form meets function, with a cause – that’s the essence of prAna as a line. Having been wearing these pieces for the past couple of weeks, I can honestly say that I am super impressed – having my own expectations for the responsible brand of activewear exceeded. In fact, I’m already picking out the next few pieces I need to add to my arsenal!

The 411 on Laser Hair Removal

0
0

There are many ways to remove hair from your body, each with their own merits and demerits. While you may be familiar with many of them – razors, depilatory creams, etc – it may be time to look into getting laser hair removal. Performed in a clinic or spa, laser hair removal can be done quickly and with lasting results. By following some simple pointers, you can get even more out of the laser treatment.

Care Before Treatment
Prior to your first treatment, you will need to schedule a consultation with the cosmetic practice. They will look at your skin and hair to determine how to best treat you. At that time, they will instruct you as to what you need to do for the first treatment. If you have used wax hair removal recently, you will have to wait until the hair grows back in. Laser hair removal must target the roots of the hair to effectively remove it. Once you are scheduled for the laser procedure, avoid sun exposure for two or more weeks prior to the appointment.

The Day Of Your Appointment
On the day you are scheduled for treatment, do not apply anything on your skin. Perfume or cologne, makeup, lotions, and any other topical applications may cause damage to your skin during treatment. Instead, keep the skin area to be treated free and clear. Many people experience mild discomfort during the procedure. Normally, technicians will automatically apply a numbing cream to your skin before using the laser hair-removal equipment. If yours does not, request that they do so.

Immediately After The Appointment
Right after the laser hair removal procedure, your skin will be mildly irritated. Applying an ice pack or cooling cloths to it will help reduce any redness or swelling that may have occurred. Avoid using perfumes or other chemicals on the area of the skin where the hair was removed for at least one day after the treatment. Do apply a moisturizing cream, especially one with aloe or vitamin E, to help sooth the skin.

Follow-Up Care
After the appointment, there are still things you need to do to care for your skin. Be sure to do the following:

  • Limit exposure to the sun for the first two weeks after your laser treatment. That includes using a tanning bed.
  • Apply skincare moisturizers for the first week to keep skin healthy.
  • Use gentle cleansers for the first week to avoid irritating the skin. Avoid sugar scrubs and similar product while your skin is sensitive. After that first week, use exfoliating scrubs to keep the skin smooth.

Making The Laser Hair Removal Last
As you know, no matter how well you shave your body, hair continues to grow back. While lasers are much more effective at destroying hair follicles, they are not permanent with only one treatment. Hair grows in three different stages at all times. To make it stop growing back, the root must be destroyed while in the correct stage. In order to make the laser hair removal semi-permanent, you will need to return for between 5 to 7 sessions.

What Can I Do with a Health Administration Degree?

0
0

If you are looking at getting a degree in health administration but you’d like to find out more about what it entails, if you’d be eligible, and the career paths that the degree can lead to, then you’ve come to the right place. A degree in Health Administration prepares you to handle the business side of health, rather than the medical side. You may be involved with things such as human resources, or facilities management.  Below are some of the options that will be available to you.

Health Care Administrator

This is one of the more well-known jobs when completing a health administration degree, and involves ensuring the smooth run of a medical facility. You may choose a career in a hospital, a doctor’s surgery or a care home to name a few. Working as a health care administrator involves attending high-level meetings, feeding back appropriate information about your facility and helping to improve the efficiency and financial effectiveness of your facility. You may also help with staff schedules, salaries and patient billing.

Human Resources

Another option may be working in human resources within a health care company, looking after staff and ensuring they are happy to allow the facility to run at its best capacity. You may even wish to branch out into a school, university or government office if you prefer. Human resources can recruit and hire staff, manage compensation and employee benefits and may also help provide job training.

Health and Injury Insurance

With a degree in health administration, you may work with insurance companies in dealing with health and injury related accidents. An online masters in health administration can give you the business and medical knowledge to be able to deal with health and injury compensation, allowing those who have been injured to get the justice they deserve. You may conduct risk analysis in workplaces and public areas, handle claims or become an underwriter.

Other Job Opportunities

With a health administration degree, there are many career options, some you may not have considered. Sales positions are available in medical settings, interacting with the public or healthcare facilities and helping to sell medical equipment and devices. You may choose a career in public relations, education, administration or management in mental health services, family and child welfare offices and probation offices. There are many amazing careers in which you can choose where you can help those in need with your skills in medical and business management. You may study the degree online, meaning you can work around your busy life and complete sections as and when you can grab your laptop and have some peace from the children, or your partner.

A degree in health administration puts you in a great position to enhance your learning and get into a rapidly growing career field, where the possibilities in career choice are huge. The degree is also a great way to advance in your chosen career, moving up the ranks and earning a better salary. With the option to graduate in as little as two years, what are you waiting for?

Fit and Flavorful Food On-The-Go with Bistro MD

0

Fact: I am a bodybuilder, and am on a very specific diet 11 out of 12 months of the year.

Fact: When it comes to my nutrition philosophy, I believe that whole foods are better, and that macro-nutrients and calories need to be tracked.

Fact: With a full-time job in finance, a three hour daily round-trip commute, and time-intensive hobbies, free time is a rare commodity, and I often struggle to find the time to meal prep.

Fact: I am and will always be a picky eater. As someone who genuinely LOVES food, but only has a limited caloric budget, I will only eat what passes my standards.

Fact: Meal prep companies are popping up everywhere, but many that I’ve tried don’t deliver on either the flavor or nutrition side of things – until now.

Bistro MD is a mealprep service that goes beyond your traditional delivery services. With a Medical Doctor (hence the MD in Bistro MD) and Registered Dietitians on-staff, Bistro MD will guide your meal plans based on your nutritional needs,  custom tailoring a meal plan that will not only help you achieve your own personal goals, but will also make you healthier in the process. Balance is the name of the game here, with  40-50% of total caloric intake coming from lean protein, 20-25% of calories coming from healthy fats, and 30-35% of calories coming in the form of complex carbohydrates. Each meal follows this caloric percentage model, and the separate snacks offered can be supplemented in, at will.

One of my biggest hang-ups with other meal services is the bland, over-cooked, and uninventive meals I’ve received. Happily, that is not the case with Bistro MD, at all. After laying out my personal food restrictions and nutritional preferences with a representative from the company, I quickly received a gigantic box FILLED with delicious, appealing, and HEALTHY breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options.

The box arrived, well-packed with dry ice that was still plentiful enough for my husband to initiate his own science experiments in our kitchen. In said box was 17 meals, ranging from the sweet to the savory, breakfast to dinner options. I also got an assortment of snacks including jerky, cookie bites, single-serve cheesecake, protein shakes, etc.

For the most part, each meal came with a main and a side, packaged in a tv-dinner style tray. Simply pop into the microwave for 2-5 minutes (depending on whether or not the meal was being heated from defrosted or frozen), let cool for a minute or two, and then enjoy. Had I felt the need to supplement any meal (and I didn’t), I could have easily added anything I wanted, without really feeling any sort of burden.

As far as the meals themselves go, I found them to be as delicious as they were nutritious. They were well-seasoned, clearly made with quality ingredients and diverse in flavors, across the spectrum. As someone who leans towards Asian flavors in general, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Sweet and Sour Meatballs were actually my favorite savory offering in the bunch, while the Stuffed French Toast was my favorite breakfast. Honestly though, they were all delicious. The snacks deserve a mention too, as they are appropriately portioned, tasty, and incredibly satisfying. The jerky was insanely good!

Because I know that my tastes can be weird at times, and sharing is caring, I decided to let my husband in on the meal action, offering him several options to try, himself. A few things to note are that my husband is almost three times my size, often eschews nutritional offerings for their more flavorful counterparts, and has recently had bariatric surgery – which limits his current nutritional intake. That being said, all of the meals fell well into his requirements, and more importantly – he LOVED them. Being that he is as picky as I am, in his own way, the fact that he enjoyed these meals as much as I did speaks VOLUMES.

All in all, Bistro MD gets rave reviews from the Krasey household. If you are looking for a meal service that delivers on both nutrition and flavor, look no further than Bistro MD.

Why Hospitals Should Offer Fitness Classes for Employees

A recent study of hospital workers in the greater Houston area found that more than 70 percent of hospital workers are overweight, if not downright obese. Have you ever stopped to consider what kind of message we are sending out to our patients? Amazingly, doctors did not fall into this questionable category which was comprised largely of nurses, nurses’ aides, and housekeeping or kitchen staff.

As a hospital administrator who worked very hard to get that online masters in health administration while working in the field, you know that nurses and aides are the only people patients generally see. The doctor will wander in for a few moments each morning, look over the chart, do a quick check and run to the next room. Everyone else on the floor, however, will interact with patients at all hours of the day and night.

Why the Task Falls to Administration

As a hospital administrator, you are on the frontlines of shaping the future of healthcare in this country. There is already a great deal of controversy over the quality and cost associated with healthcare, so why give consumers something else to talk about? Do you really think they don’t notice the fact that a great percentage of your staff is overweight and ‘guilty’ of the same issues you are advising your patients against? To quote the old proverb, “Physician, heal thyself.” However, in this instance it isn’t the physician but rather everyone else on staff!

Perhaps you should consider offering fitness classes for your employees. Wouldn’t that send a positive message on healthcare to those patients you are charged with caring for? After all, most major hospitals now offer fitness and rehab programs for patients, so why not open them up to employees? Not only would you be sending a positive message to the patients you treat, but you could very well be extending the life of your staff while ensuring a better quality of life for them as well.

Make Your Alma Mater Proud

If there is anything which can be said about California, it would be that this is one health conscious state! As the largest state in the union, you would think that being a role model for the rest of the country would be vitally important. Those who studied for an online EMHA degree from illustrious educational institutions like the University of Southern California can make their alma mater proud by breaking ground in offering fitness classes for staff members.

Lead by Example

Here is where you should take a realistic look at yourself and your own state of fitness. If you want to encourage your staff to work towards a healthier weight and level of fitness, shouldn’t you be leading by example? Are you overweight? Do you get the right amount of exercise weekly to strengthen your heart and keep your body in tip-top shape? No one is suggesting that you take bodybuilding classes, yet a bi-weekly aerobics class is just what the doctor ordered.

How can you, in good conscience, be serving low-fat, low-carb and in many cases tasteless ‘healthy’ foods to your patients while glutting out yourself? Step back for just a moment and look at how your patients view your hospital. While you can’t discriminate against hiring obese employees, you surely can offer them the opportunity to shed a few pounds and build a healthier lifestyle. That, now, is what we’d call a great hospital administrator.

It is a pink floral that wears incredibly well, year-round.

Cosmetic Surgery: Rhinoplasty 101

0

Considering a “nose job”? This post is all about Rhinoplasty!

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular and well-known types of cosmetic surgery. The procedure alters the shape of the nose, either to improve its functioning or to change its appearance. If you’re considering undergoing rhinoplasty, you may wonder exactly how the procedure works. It’s important to be knowledgeable about the surgery before you make your final decision, so you know what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

How does rhinoplasty work?

The upper portion of your nose is made of bone, and the lower portion is made of cartilage. During a rhinoplasty surgery, your doctor can remove or rearrange the bone, cartilage, and skin to change the appearance of the nose or to improve your breathing. Your doctor may also add tissue to your nose from another part of your body or from a synthetic filler.

Rhinoplasty can change the size or angle of your nose, or it can correct indentations, bumps, or other imperfections. The procedure is done with general or local anesthesia. Your surgeon will make incisions in the nose, rearrange or reshape the nose to achieve the desired result, and then bandage up your nose and apply a splint.

What problems can rhinoplasty treat?

Rhinoplasty can correct most cosmetic issues in the nose. It can make the nose larger, smaller, and more symmetrical. It can smooth out a bump on the bridge of the nose, make a crooked nose more centered, and make the nostrils narrower or wider. You can make multiple changes to your nose with just one rhinoplasty procedure.

Rhinoplasty also has lots of functional benefits. If you have trouble breathing due to structural issues in your nose, rhinoplasty can open up your airways and allow you to breathe better. It can also fix damage to your nose caused by an injury or trauma.

What are the types of rhinoplasty?

There are two main types of rhinoplasty: open and closed. Open rhinoplasty is more commonly used for major changes or reshaping. The surgeon makes an incision in the skin separating the nostrils and lifts the skin and tissue off of the nose. This allows them to directly see the nasal anatomy and make more precise changes.

During a closed rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions inside of the nose. Then, they remove the skin from the bone and cartilage to manipulate the structure of the nose. Closed rhinoplasty leaves a smaller scar than open rhinoplasty, and it usually requires less surgery time and less post-op healing time. However, it’s not as effective as open rhinoplasty for major reshaping. Your doctor will make a recommendation based on your cosmetic goals.

Another type is filler rhinoplasty, which uses injectable fillers to alter the nose shape. This surgery can smooth out bumps or sharp angles, change the size or shape of the tip of the nose, and make the nose more symmetrical. Because it’s nonsurgical and only uses injections, it can’t reduce the size of your nose or correct functional nasal problems.

Revision rhinoplasty is a procedure that corrects issues from your original rhinoplasty. Although most people are happy with their first rhinoplasty procedure, mistakes sometimes happen. You may feel unhappy with your results, or you may experience an injury or trauma that affects your nose’s appearance. Revision rhinoplasty fixes mistakes and helps you get closer to your cosmetic goals.

Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Ideal candidates should be in good physical health to reduce the risk of complications during the surgery. They should be at least 15 years old, which is the average age that the nose stops growing. They should also have reasonable expectations for the surgery. Rhinoplasty can make you feel more confident in your appearance, but it won’t fix all of your worries or insecurities. Candidates should want to improve their appearance, but they shouldn’t expect to perfect it, and they shouldn’t expect the surgery to transform their lives.

What happens during and after rhinoplasty surgery?

Before the procedure, your doctor will go over your medical history and conduct a physical exam to make sure you’re ready for surgery. Your doctor may take photos of your nose and use computer software to manipulate these photos and show you what your nose will look like after the rhinoplasty. Two weeks before the surgery, you will have to stop smoking and taking aspirin and ibuprofen, which can increase bleeding.

You will either have general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The best anesthesia option for you depends on how extensive the surgery will be. During the procedure, your surgeon will make incisions in your nose and rearrange the bone, cartilage, and skin to achieve the desired shape. When you wake up, your nose will be bandaged up and will have a splint. You may be able to go home that day, or you may have to stay overnight for observation.

The bandages and splint will remain on your nose for about a week. Some bleeding is common during the first few days of recovery, and you’ll have to sleep with your head elevated for the first few days. For a few weeks after your surgery, you’ll be instructed to avoid strenuous activity. You should also avoid blowing your nose and wearing clothes that you have to pull over your head.

The most noticeable swelling will subside after a few weeks, but some swelling will remain for a year. You won’t see the final results of the rhinoplasty until all the swelling is gone, so don’t panic if you don’t like how your nose looks right after the surgery.

A Krasey Little Announcement – I’m NASM Certified!

Those of you who regularly tune in to my little corner of the interwebs (thank you, by the way!) may have noticed a decrease in the frequency of my posts – sorry about that! KraseyFitBeauty has and will always be a pet project of mine – but unfortunately, the blog sometimes has to take a backseat to the other things going on in my life.

KraseyBeauty was born as a beauty blog, 8 years ago (time FLIES!) – and primarily focused on product reviews, cosmetic swatches, and makeup “looks of the day”. As I have evolved over time, so too has this blog – to now cover my growing passion for the fitness industry and the sport of bodybuilding. KraseyBeauty became KraseyFitBeauty, and here we are, today!

The reason for this post is to introduce a bit of news on the personal side, to further explain the reasons for my absence of late. Besides engaging in my own competitive bodybuilding endeavors, working my full-time job in finance land, and writing articles for another supplement company, I studied for and passed the exam for my NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Certified Personal Training Certification! What time means for my personal life is that I will essentially be busier than ever, launching my own personal training business. What that means for all of you is that you now have access to an expert in the field, and you shouldn’t be surprised if you see more informative fitness-centric posts, in addition to the usual topics covered here on KFB.

Interested in my personal training services?! I offer both online and in-person (NYC and LI area, mostly) training, and am equipped to offer nutritional advice, as well. Just shoot me a note KraseyFit@gmail.com

And there you have it – the fun never stops when you’re krasey, like me. 😉

New Year New Skincare with Clarins

Now that I’m in my early 30’s, I’m more diligent in my skincare regimen than ever. When it comes to waging the war against any and all signs of aging, consider me a steadfast soldier. Enter some of the latest and greatest products from Clarins, my current weapons of choice.

Double Serum

With serums, two is always better than one. This particular serum offers up powerful plant extracts, to not only smooth, firm, and tone the skin, but also to put a bit of glow back into my visage. It gets its name for the unique double-serum matrix – a combo of two different serums (one water soluble and one oil soluble) that are housed within different chambers of the container, but come out of the tube together, for application. I used this product consistently, for about a month, and definitely noticed that my skin felt smoother and looked more radiant. It also helped the appearance of those furrow lines between my brows that I hate so much. Bonus points for not feeling greasy, and smelling terrific.

Extra Firming Day Cream with SPF 15

With the latest moisturizing and anti-aging line, the Extra-Firming Day and Night Creams offer up a nutrient-enriched, super emollient, anti-aging 1-2 punch. This day cream feels light and silky on my skin, repairing minor wrinkles while offering up protection from the sun. Kangaroo Flower extract, a new plant discovery is the secret ingredient of this sauce.

Extra Firming Night Cream

The Day Cream’s partner in crime, the Extra-Firming Night Cream is thicker and richer than its daytime companion, offering up a richer experience and even more anti-aging benefits. I wake up each morning with radiant skin, and the effects have only improved with prolonged use. Having used these two products these past several weeks, I can proudly say that I am confidently going sans makeup, of late. Both products also smell amazing, in typical Clarins fashion.

You can find all of these awesome products on the Clarins website. I’m a fan, and I’m sure you will be, too!

Because a well-rounded beauty blog includes men’s beauty products, and because my husband enjoys a good product as much as I do, I now present another edition of the gentleman’s corner.

L’Envol De Cartier Eau de Toilette

When it comes to scents, classic fragrance house Cartier most certainly knows what it is doing. In its newest re-imagining, L’Envol emerges as a lighter, fresher Eau de Toilette. This scent features citrus, wood, musk, and a slightly sweetened honey.

Pasha de Cartier Edition Noire

Speaking of men’s scents, and Cartier, sometimes you find something remarkable in the classics. Such is the case with Pasha, which has been re-imagined in its latest iteration, Edition Noire. This scent is a combination of fresh green citrus, woody amber, and cedar. On hubs, its the wood and amber that really shines through.

Elemis the Adventurer Kit

For the jet-setting gent, Elemis offers up the perfect travel kit, filled with all of his favorites. Included in this toiletry case are miniatures of the Deep Cleanse Facial Wash, Skin Soothe Shave Gel, Daily Moisture Boost, Active Hair & Body Wash, and the Instant Refreshing Gel. It’s perfectly packed up and ready to go, wherever our travels may take us.

These are just a few of Mr Krasey’s current favs. Spot any must-haves in the bunch?

Fit Foodie Friday – Meet Serena Marie, RD

0
0

Ladies and gents, here is a collaboration that is simply meant to be. Serena is not only my cousin, but a kick-butt Registered Dietitian, and marathon runner. Our goal in collaborating is to offer all of you a holistic, well-rounded approach to good old diet and exercise. In this, her first post, she introduces herself. Serena, take it away!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hey hey! I’m Serena Marie, RD. RD stands for registered dietitian-nutritionist, a nationally regulated license. I studied nutritional sciences at Cornell & Yale Universities and have been practicing nutrition for about seven years specializing in athletic performance and weight loss.

But forget about that, you just need to know that I love food! Not only do I love the science behind diet and nutrition, but I also appreciate the memories and the joy food brings to our lives. As a runner, I rely on the benefits of delicious, clean meals to fuel workouts and enhance recovery. Having run four Boston Qualifying marathons and as the RD for the awesome running podcast, The Running Lifestyle Show, running is a huge part of my life.

2. What’s a day in the life like? Walk us through it.

Usually I will wake up early and do a fasted lifting session with a thermos of cold, black coffee or go for a run. Coffee is the best reason to get out of bed, after all! I then head to work. Depending on my goals, I will either eat a high protein breakfast, usually cottage cheese or Greek yogurt, or I will fast until lunch time! I’m a fan of practicing intermittent fasting when it works with my goals! Lunch is generally a salad of impressive proportions. The ladies who work at my cafeteria are always amazed that all 5’2” of me eats 1.5 pounds of salad for lunch on the daily.

After getting home from work, I meal prep and do recipe development. I love walking to my local veggie store, stocking up on what’s in season, and experimenting in the kitchen! At night, I’ll spend an hour or so counseling a client or writing a blog post to share with my fabulous online followers!

Basically, I’m a lucky gal because I have set up my whole routine around fitness and food!

3. How did you get into nutrition/ why did you become a nutritionist?

My fascination with nutrition started in high school after joining the Cross Country team! I realized that what I ate before practice, before races or in general affected my athletic performance and energy level. I happened to be taking chemistry the same year I joined Cross Country and realized that I am not only a lover of food but a lover of nerdy science classes! I was sold after that since nutrition married science and food into one discipline!

4. What’s your personal nutritional philosophy?

I believe in eating real, nutrient rich food. To make it simple, I believe in eating food that your great grandparents would recognize food. This rule of thumb generally guarantees a food is higher in vitamins and minerals than the modern, processed “food items” of 2018!

I also strive to teach my followers how to identify a food’s macronutrients so they can learn how to best balance their plate for their own unique goals. I tend to digress from the “Standard American Diet” philosophy of eating 50-60% of calories from carbohydrate and instead encourage higher protein diets with varying recommendations for carb or fat based on a person’s goals and activity level.

5. What are some of your favorite foods?

I love to eat so this list is a long one! Let’s break it down into sweet and salty for brevity’s sake! To sate a sweet tooth I love dark chocolate, plain Greek yogurt sweetened with stevia drops & berries or raisins (I know, who says raisins are their favorite food?). My favorite salty picks are scrambled eggs with kelp flakes; salmon poke bowls or anything covered in a really delicious tomato sauce!

6. Name one underrated food. Why?

Nutritional yeast!! When is ever-so-tantalizingly named food going to have a turn in the spotlight?! It actually tastes like CHEESE but its high in B12 (one of the few vegan sources), iron, protein and super low in fat! This is a great way to increase a meal’s protein content and vitamin content without adding tons of extra calories.

7. Name one overrated food. Why?

Coconut oil.

Wait. Please don’t hate me. I love coconut oil and cook with it frequently, but its definitely overhyped! Its not a cure-all and there are many foods with a way denser nutrient profile. I think coconut oil should be used for baking and cooking, but give other nutrient-rich-fat-sources a try as well!

8. Name one thing you cannot bring yourself to eat no matter how healthy.

Okay. So here’s the thing. I am a firm believer in trying foods repeatedly. I used to hate beets, but I kept trying them, and now I enjoy them. So this is my current situation with my dearest frenemy, turmeric.

I dislike the taste of turmeric with a passion. But I still cook with it because its so incredibly good for you and I am determined to like it one day! Turmeric has an abundance of scientific literature suggesting it decreases inflammation, something that as an athlete I am always worried about, and prevents cancer.

9. What’s your guilty food pleasure?

So remember how I said I loveee me some tomato sauce? Doesn’t it make sense that I love pizza? I live in Brooklyn so it would be kind of sacrilegious for me to feel any other type of way!

10. What is your fitness mode of choice?

I love squatting and kettlebells SO much, but my truest love is definitely running! The 15k and half marathon are my favorite distances to race.

11. How do your nutritional choices compliment your fitness routine?

My fitness goals always have a huge impact on my nutrition.
When I’m racing competitively and therefore doing long runs or sprinting workouts on-the-reg, I eat a higher carbohydrate diet and tend to eat small, frequent meals since I find that the combination of running and a higher carb diet leave me hungrier!

When my goals are more aesthetic than competitive, I tend to do intermittent fasting and a lower carb lifestyle since I’m less concerned about optimizing athletic performance and prioritizing fat loss instead!

No matter my goals, I always eat a diet rich in vegetables and protein. Huge salads, spinach smoothies, wild caught tuna and lots of Greek yogurt are my staples!

12. Finally tell us a bit about what we can expect from your column here?

There are three things you need to know about me: I am a nutritionist, nerd & runner. The nerdiness stems from my obsession with reading the latest and greatest in nutritional science. I really love debunking myths or explaining the “why” behind diet and food trends. No one should just blindly believe something because someone says its true, we all deserve the opportunity to really understand the science behind nutrition practices, so you can choose if its a viable option for you.

That said, you can also count on me to obsess over a delicious food trend and talk about how food can influence athletic performance!

You can learn more about me by checking out SerenaMarieRD.com, perusing my facebook page Facebook.com/serenamarierd or friending me on instagram @serenamarieRD!
